Joining SSW contribution

to VOP magazine

28th July 2017

Sight Support Worthing was formerly known as

Worthing Society for the Blind

These notes should work when recording either the SSW contribution or the VOP magazine. They also deal with the process on the night of recording the news and assembling the final product.

For this example I am assuming the issue is to be number 1099.

We have already established a file naming convention. This prefixes the file name with the issue number and suffixes either L, W or M. So for Littlehampton issue 1099 we get 1099L for the cassette and 1099L-00, 1099L-01 etc for the tracks to be burned on to CD.

Similarly we have 1099W, 1099W-00 …..  Plus 1099M, 1099M-00 ….. and so on.

The SSW file will do almost the same please. That is it will be named 1099SSW. There will be no other files as the 4-minute recording will be just one file.

  1. First thing to check

Look in the folder “Recordings Go Here” and its sub-folder “SSW Stuff” for 1099M.wav and 1099SSW.wav.

  1. In the Simple Case

    1. If you are recording the magazine

and 1099SSW.wav is not present, go ahead and do the Magazine in the ordinary way, export multiple to create 1099M-00.wav 1099M-01.wav etc, then export the whole thing to 1099M.wav.

Leave all the files in “Recordings go here”. FINISH

  1. If you are recording the SSW contribution

and 1099M.wav is not present, go ahead and do the recording, exporting it to 1099SSW.wav.

Leave the file in “SSW Stuff” (a sub-folder of “Recordings go here”). FINISH

  1. Joining Up to the Existing Other Recording

    1. If you are recording the magazine with 1099SSW.wav already in place

Record the magazine.

Export Multiple in the ordinary way to create 1099M-00.wav 1099M-01.wav etc, leaving the 1099SSW.wav separate at this stage.

THEN ‘import audio’ 1099SSW.wav from “SSW Stuff”

Cut and Paste it in front of the beginning of the magazine

Export the whole thing as 1099M.wav ready for the cassettes. To avoid ambiguity you might like to name this file “1099 with SSW.wav”.     FINISH.

  1. If you are recording for SSW with the 1099M.wav already in place

Record the SSW contribution.

Export it as 1099SSW.wav in to “SSW Stuff”  (Ready for the CD on the news –recording night)

NOW ‘Import Audio’ 1099M.wav

Cut/Paste to place the SSW at the beginning, immediately before the start of the magazine.

Export the whole thing as 1099M.wav in to “Recordings go here” ready for the cassettes. To avoid ambiguity and confusion you might like to name this file 1099 with SSW.wav.

FINISH.

  1. Finalising the News Recordings

As well as your usual 1099L or 1099W files you will find the normal 1099M files plus a 1099SSW.wav

The 1099M should already have the SSW contribution incorporated (but check!!) and it can be sent to the copier computer on Side B audio.

The 1099L and 1099W files go to Side A audio in the usual way.

When you assemble the files to burn to the CD:

First you will have all your news files

Then the 1099SSW.wav

Then the magazine 1099M-00, 1099M-01….etc

FINISH    -     and there’s no extra work on the night!
