THE Voice of Progress was 40 years old the previous year - and to celebrate, volunteers and listeners enjoyed a party at Long Furlong Barn, Clapham.

More than 100 guests were joined by the Mayors of Littlehampton and Arundel in toasting the success of the organisation - which distributes free news recordings to around 300 people every fortnight.

Guests were entertained by the New Melodians choir and enjoyed a tea of sandwiches, scones and strawberries, all washed down with a celebratory glass of champagne.

The Voice of Progress - the talking newspaper for the blind and partially sighted in Worthing and Littlehampton - was founded in 1975 by Nick Hare and the Littlehampton Rotary Club and had just produced its 1,000th edition.

Director Charles Waring thanked volunteers and listeners for their continued support and said: “Here’s to the next 40 years!”.

If you or anyone you know are registered blind and would like to receive our free CD's of local news or you are someone who would like to volunteer to join us at the Voice of Progress, please call 01903 776569, leave a message and we will get back to you.

9TH JUNE, 2015

On the, 9th June, The VOP recorded it’s 1,000th edition, a huge milestone by any means. I would like to thank all our volunteers who help to put the recordings together every fortnight
without them and their enthusiasm the VOP would just not exist!

The Littlehampton readers, some of the Worthing readers and our technician!

The above photos were taken in a break in recording for the 1,000th edition on our 40th anniversary, which was recorded on the 9th June. It’s not customary to drink champagne before a recording but on this occasion it felt appropriate! The Littlehampton edition was completed but the Worthing one was still to do, so we apologise if it sounded a bit wobbly, because of the fizz!!
Happy Birthday the VOP!

The 1,000th recording for Worthing gets under way!

Technician Peter keeping things at the correct level!

If you or someone you know would like to become involved in the VOP please call us on 01903 776569 (leave a message) or email;
